EN 388 Marking Guide

The EN 388 standard represents significant revisions to the way mechanical gloves are tested and how the new ratings are now indicated on gloves. Ansell supports these regulatory changes and have published a range of tools for you to make the new regulations easier to understand.

The EN 388 standard represents the most sweeping revisions to this fundamental mechanical hand protection benchmark in over 13 years. The new standards are reflected in a new pictogram that is explained in detail in this guide.

2. • The new EN 388 shield pictogram can report up to 6 separate mechanical performance measures. • These ratings include complementary scores for cut performance: the original Blade Cut test score (rating position b ) and the new EN ISO Cut Resistance score (rating position e ). • In instances where gloves have not been tested with the Blade Cut method or where this test is not applicable to that style (because blade dulling has occurred), the letter X can be used instead of a rating. • In these instances, Ansell only presents the EN ISO results (see back page for examples).
